Stuff

Working from home today as we have Harry's hospital appointment this afternoon. Took Jack to Welwyn Under 5's this morning and will be picking him up in an hour. He seems to enjoy it there, he has his own peg where his coat and ruck-sac hang and then he picks up a card with his name on it and takes it through to the main room. This morning he ran straight to Miranda and she picked him up for a cuddle before he would put his card into the box.

Other things, at work we are in the calm before the storm, our project has not gone live yet, it is looking like the weekend after next, but I will not be involved as I am at Centre Parcs that week (still have to find out if they have any form of WiFi). Still haven't really heard anything about the transfer of my job so that has now been in limbo for over 2 years!

On a more positive note, I have uploaded a bunch of pictures to flickr upto Harry's Baptism which was the weekend before last. I have also been playinga bit with iMovie and have put a couple of videos onto YouTube (one of Harry and one of Jack) which I think Duncan and Caroline enjoyed. I have also had a stab at updating the boys blog - that needs some work - the aim is to get it updated before we head to Centre Parcs so I can do something similar to Blickling and update nightly the boys activities.

Need I add that rockhoppersuk has remained untouched. Also one of my aims was to get in and organise my del.icio.us bookmarks - I now have over 50 bookmarks with a label of dummy that have been tagged on the fly - that is my goal for this week.

One last thing before I close is I have finally got tweetdeck working on my work laptop and that has really brought twitter into focus as a very useful tool, my tweets have been up and as I can see tweets coming in I have been interacting more with people I follow. I would like an txt service like they have over the water but tweetdeck at home and work works very well for me.

All of a Twitter

Just a quick update on all things 2.0 in my life. I finally have some people I know in the real world on Twitter - 3 work colleagues @ambrosiaparsley, @richdb and @schikane so I have been twittering more. Unfortunately that is as far as it has gone, flickr just has a couple of iPhone pictures uploaded on the fly - I have a bunch of pictures from Harry's christening that need uploading, youTube has not gone anywhere and neither has the boys blogs or rockhoppersuk.

But hoHum my tweets are increasing

Snow has fallen

A frustrating week this week, snow has crippled Southern England, I spent over an hour on Monday sitting on the M1 outside Watford before turning round and heading home, where I couldn't remote access into work so spend the afternoon playing with Jack in the snow.

Tuesday there was still snow about but made it into work and then the craziness started, we are now less than two weeks until my project goes live and everyone seems to have gone mad.

The weather improved for a couple of days then this morning the snow came down and the roads were just horrible, no grit just icy slush, so again I am working at home and not really getting much done.

I have managed to get a youTube sidebar into this blog, and am still thinking of turning this into my home - rockhoppersuk.co.uk desperately needs updating still maybe today - I am supposed to be working.

Onto other stuff - booked tickets to Canada to go and see Duncan and Caroline not sure if I am looking forward to a six hour flight with the boys - hopefully we can get Harry in a bassent and then we get seats right at the front and extra leg room. We still need to sort out car hire - Duncan has got us a car to borrow in Moncton but we need to get from Halifax to Moncton and need a couple of car seats so we haven't decided what to do about that. We also need to sort out where to go when we are there - Karen likes the look on Annapolis Royal in Nova Scocia but we haven't any firm plans yet.

Other than that we have tickets to Blur in July and the football at Wembly (Pats @ Bucs) in October which I can not wait for.

Harry's baptism is next weekend - we managed to get the thorny issue of Godparents sorted, Duncan whilst in Canada is one, Jane is another and then Andy has special permission to be one although not baptised himself Alan allowed him to be Harry's Godfather as he is being confirmed in July.

More personal news it looks like my job is safe - I will be tuped to a new company but it looks like my role still exists, still hoping to sit down with their HR and my new line manager and figure out exactly what they expect from my role and what I can expect from them.

Just a couple of 2.0 things

  • Twitter - I have been tweeting more
  • Flickr - I have posted pictures of Jack in the snow have some more to get off the camera so as I can upload
  • WordPress - No updates - there WILL be some soon
  • website -At some point I will - maybe
  • youTube -we now have a youTube channel, it only contains a couple of videos at the moment but that could expand. I have created a sidebar of videos on here

Oh Well

As you can see a fair few months have passed this blog has not been updated, rockhoppersuk has not been updated, the podcast blog has not been updated. I can't really explain why so let me tell you what has been updated.

Twitter
I have been tweeting sparodically. I am trying to get my real life friends interested but getting no real take up. I use it mainly to keep up with podcasters the other side of the water.

Flickr
I have been happily uploading photos taken with the iPhone, but I spent last night uploading photos since 07/11/2008 and correctly tagging those taken with airMe. I have decided to stop using airMe and go for DarkSide (mainly because it saves the pictures to my Camera Roll) so they should be titled and tagged better.

WordPress
The boys blog has stalled in November and that is going to be my focus this week to get that updated properly.

So it is not all bad news, work is busy we now go live in under four weeks so I may miss these deadlines, but I am sure by Christmas this blog might get another post :-)

Ch-ch-changes

Ok, so all the old posts are deleted (after double checking that they have been moved to wordPress) the next stage is to change the design and have a look at the widgets.

I am hoping to link to flickr and twitter and have a page somewhere to talk about ongoing stuff - stay tuned

A year has passed

Well, it has been a year since I was last on Blogger. Jack and now Harry's blog is still going strong over on Rockhoppers Weblog, unfortunately the Rockhoppers Podcast Blog (which replaced this space) has dried up. Basically work went crazy at the end of last year and I typically updated that blog at the start of the day and that wasn't happening - but it was fun whilst it lasted...

Anyway I was toying with starting up a personal blog again, there wont be any talk of podcasting over here I have a few ideas on what to do with the Podcast Blog - it will be very different it as in it won't be a recap of shows. I will post more over there - I am planning on this being a space where I can organise my thoughts etc...

The master plan is to update our website which is horrendously out of date, and add all the web 2.0 stuff I have going on and then link out to them so there really is just one home for rockhoppers and every thing will hang of that.

Ok so that is the plan, I guess the proof of the pudding and all that is to see what happens now on here, hopefully not the silence that has unfortunately become the norm...

The next thing to do is to is delete all the old posts on here - they all exist on their relevant wordpress blog so they are not lost. I will leave this post and maybe the goodbye one and go from there, this won't happen today but hopefully over the weekend.

Take it easy - rockhoppers

Goodbye from here

As mentioned below, I created a new blog for Jack on Wordpress and I am happier with some parts of Word Press (not to mention I am yet to have any problems with Technorati unlike this one which pings occur randomly and posts are missing over there) so I have exported all these posts and comments onto a new Word Press Blog (Rockhoppers Podcast Blog).

Thanks Rockhoppers
